The Fuwei Armed Escort (simplified: 福威镖局, traditional: 福威鏢局, pinyin: Fúwēi Biāojú, jyutping: fuk1 wai1 biu1 guk6) was a prominent armed escort company in Laughing in the Wind, based in Fuzhou. Its name meant “prosperity and might.” The company was founded by Lin Yuantu (林远图), who had left the Shaolin Order as the monk Duyuan (渡元) and created the Evil-Warding Swordplay after memorising the Sunflower Manual.
Overview
The Fuwei Armed Escort grew famous throughout the jianghu under Lin Yuantu’s leadership. Lin did not pass on the true Evil-Warding Swordplay to his descendants, teaching only a weakened version. His grandson Lin Zhennan (林震南) ran the company with branches across several provinces.
Yu Canghai (余沧海) of the Qingcheng School coveted the rumoured Evil-Warding Sword Manual. He led an attack on the Lin family, massacring the Fuwei Armed Escort and killing Lin Zhennan and Madam Wang. Only Lin Pingzhi (林平之) survived, setting him on a path of revenge and eventual mastery of the true Evil-Warding Swordplay.
