Taishan School

The Taishan School (simplified: 泰山派, traditional: 泰山派, pinyin: Tàishān Pài, jyutping: taai3 saan1 paai3) was one of the five schools of the Five Mountains Sword Alliance in Laughing in the Wind, based on Mount Tai (泰山) in Shandong Province. It was a Daoist faction led by Tianmen (天门).

Overview

The Taishan School’s signature technique was the Eighteen Bends of Taishan (泰山十八盘), a sword style inspired by the winding path up Mount Tai. The school also practised the Five Great Pines Sword (五大夫剑), named after the historic pines on the mountain, and Dongzong Rube (岱宗如何), a strategic sword technique.

Tianmen’s senior disciples Yujizi (玉磯子), Yuqingzi (玉磬子), and Yuyinzi (玉音子) were swayed by Zuo Lengchan to challenge Tianmen’s leadership. During the Five Mountains Sword Meet, Yujizi and others conspired to remove Tianmen, leading to internal conflict. Yue Buqun exploited these divisions to seize control of the merged Five Mountains School.
