WuxiaSociety’s translation of Twin Blades of the Storm Dragon is an ongoing project that brings this classic Republican-era wuxia novel to English-speaking readers. This translation represents WuxiaSociety’s first venture into translating Wang Dulu’s works, one of the legendary Northern Five Masters of early Chinese wuxia fiction.
The in-house translation by Jenxi began in January 2025, aiming to capture both the tragic romance and martial arts action that define Wang Dulu’s distinctive style. This novel showcases Wang’s characteristic approach: realistic martial arts portrayals, deep psychological exploration of characters’ inner conflicts, and the bittersweet tragedy that made his work stand out among his contemporaries.
Unlike Jin Yong’s novels, Wang Dulu’s works do not have official English translations. This fan translation seeks to introduce Wang Dulu’s elegant prose and emotionally resonant storytelling to a new generation of readers, with careful attention to preserving the cultural nuances and literary qualities that have made his novels enduring classics.
Our translation includes extensive footnotes on historical context, cultural references, and literary allusions to help readers fully appreciate the depth and beauty of Wang Dulu’s writing.
