Gai Yuncong (simplified: 盖运聪, traditional: 蓋運聰, Jyutping: koi3 wan6 cung1, pinyin: Gài Yùncōng) was a government official during the late Song Dynasty who served as Prefect of Jiaxing Prefecture.
Biography
Gai Yuncong served as Prefect of Jiaxing Prefecture during the late Song Dynasty. During his tenure, he had a significant encounter with Wanyan Honglie, the sixth prince of the Jin Dynasty who was traveling incognito as “Yan Lie.” When Wanyan Honglie was involved in a dispute at a local inn, he demanded to see Gai Yuncong directly, displaying a letter that commanded immediate respect from the local officials.
Gai Yuncong, along with his subordinate Jiang Wen (姜文), the magistrate of Xiushui County, immediately recognized the authority of the letter and treated Wanyan Honglie with the utmost deference. They provided him with gold and silver to replace stolen funds and offered to arrange proper accommodations.
Behind the scenes
Gai Yuncong appears in The Legend of the Condor Heroes as a government official who serves as Prefect of Jiaxing Prefecture. His encounter with Wanyan Honglie becomes a significant plot point in the story.
