Baihui Monastery

Baihui Monastery (simplified: 百会寺, traditional: 百會寺, pinyin: Bǎihuì Sì, jyutping: baak3 wui6 zi6) was a Buddhist temple in Shandong. Its only named member was the monk Great Master Jingzhi (静智大师), whom Xiong Yuanxian of the Pingtong Armed Escort introduced as “Great Master Jingzhi of Baihui Monastery in Shandong” (ch. 1).

History

Jingzhi and the iron box

Jingzhi was with Xiong Yuanxian, Liu Yuanhe and Zheng Sanniang when they waylaid Tao Baisui and Tao Zian as they dug up the iron box on the snowy mountain. In the fight at the pit he attacked Tao Baisui with his monk’s dao, but was no match for him, and the old man’s steel whip notched the edge of his dao. He was a reckless fighter who would not stop when Xiong Yuanxian called for a halt, and when Tao Zian threw down his dao and dared him to strike, then punched him in the nose, Jingzhi flew into a rage (ch. 1).

When Tao Zian held the box out to Liu Yuanhe, he flicked its edge and three short arrows shot from it at Liu. Liu pulled Jingzhi in front of him as a shield; two arrows struck the monk in the throat and he died at once (ch. 1).
