Yuanxing (simplified: 圆性, traditional: 圓性, pinyin: Yuánxìng, jyutping: jyun4 sing3) is the Buddhist name (法名) of the young nun of the Emei Order who travels as Yuan Ziyi in Jin Yong’s Side Story of the Flying Fox. Tonsured as a child, she wears a wig and lay dress on her journey east, and reveals herself as Yuanxing when she enters Fuk’anggan’s Grand Assembly of Zhangmen under Heaven with her head shaved. “Yuan Ziyi” plays on this name: Yuanxing turned about gives xing Yuan, “surnamed Yuan” (SIDE ch. 19).
