Wan Gui

Wan Gui (simplified: 万圭, traditional: 萬圭, pinyin: Wàn Guī, jyutping: maan6 gwai1) was Wan Zhenshan’s son and third disciple of the Wan School. He conspired with his father and fellow disciples to frame Di Yun and marry Qi Fang, eventually killing his own wife.

Biography

Meeting Qi Fang

When Di Yun and Qi Fang came to Jingzhou for Wan Zhenshan’s birthday celebration, Wan Gui was immediately attracted to Qi Fang. Seeing that she was close to Di Yun, he conspired with his father and fellow disciples to eliminate Di Yun.

Framing Di Yun

Wan Gui led the plot to frame Di Yun for raping Taohong, Wan Zhenshan’s concubine. He bribed officials and created false evidence, leading to Di Yun’s imprisonment, where Di Yun’s fingers were severed and his collarbones pierced.

Marriage to Qi Fang

After Di Yun was imprisoned, Wan Gui deceived Qi Fang into believing that Di Yun had betrayed her. He eventually married her, and they had a daughter named Kongxincai (空心菜, named after Di Yun’s nickname).

Discovery and death

Years later, when Di Yun returned and the truth was revealed, Wan Gui attempted to kill Qi Fang and their daughter to protect his secrets. However, when Qi Fang tried to save him from being sealed in a wall, he stabbed her fatally. In the end, Wan Gui died from poison on the treasure at Tianning Temple.

Character

Wan Gui was portrayed as ruthless and selfish, inheriting his father’s cruelty. He was willing to frame an innocent man, deceive the woman he claimed to love, and even kill his own wife and daughter to protect his interests and obtain the treasure.

Martial arts

Wan Gui practiced the Tangshi Swordplay (唐诗剑法) under his father’s instruction. Like the other Wan disciples, his martial arts emphasized complex techniques but lacked internal power.
