Iron whip (simplified: 铁鞭, traditional: 铁鞭, pinyin: Tiě Biān)1 was a flexible weapon consisting of metal segments connected by chains or leather. The weapon could deliver powerful strikes whilst maintaining flexibility for binding and entangling techniques.
Overview
The iron whip’s segmented design combined the striking power of rigid weapons with the versatility of flexible ones. The metal segments could deliver concentrated impact, whilst the connecting chains or leather allowed the weapon to wrap around opponents’ weapons or limbs. This flexibility made it effective for both offensive strikes and defensive disarming techniques.
Description
The iron whip consisted of multiple metal segments linked together by flexible connections. The number of segments could vary, with more segments providing greater flexibility but potentially reducing striking power. Each segment could deliver concentrated impact when striking, whilst the connecting material enabled the weapon to bend and wrap around targets. This combination allowed practitioners to use both direct strikes and entangling techniques, making the weapon versatile in combat situations.
