Heroes' Manor

Heroes' Manor

Heroes’ Manor (simplified: 聚贤庄, traditional: 聚賢莊, pinyin: Jùxián Zhuāng) is a manor owned by the “You Brothers” (游氏双雄 – Yóu Shì Shuāngxióng), You Ji (游骥 – Yóu Jì) and You Ju (游驹 – Yóu Jū). Although the brothers were not martial arts masters of the highest caliber, their manor held great prestige in the martial world due to their hospitality and generosity.

History

The You brothers

The You brothers were known for their hospitality and generosity, welcoming all martial artists who passed through. They were willing to help anyone in need, earning a reputation similar to that of Lord Mengchang (孟尝 – Mèngcháng). This generosity made Heroes’ Manor highly respected in the martial world despite the brothers’ moderate martial arts skills.

Martial arts

Each brother wielded a refined steel shield, and when fighting together, their combined power was greatly enhanced. The brothers specialized in defensive techniques using their shields, which were both offensive and defensive weapons.

The famous battle

During the battle at Heroes’ Manor, the brothers’ shields were shattered. Following their master’s teaching that “when the shield exists, the man exists; when the shield is destroyed, the man dies” (盾在人在,盾亡人亡 – Dùn zài rén zài, dùn wáng rén wáng), they committed suicide.

Cultural significance

The battle’s impact

The battle at Heroes’ Manor became one of the most famous events in the martial world, particularly because Qiao Feng fought alone against numerous martial artists. This battle cemented Qiao Feng’s reputation as a legendary warrior and demonstrated his extraordinary martial arts abilities.

Literary representation

The manor represents the theme of hospitality and generosity in the martial world, as well as the tragic consequences of rigid adherence to martial arts principles. The brothers’ suicide following their master’s teaching illustrates the strict codes of honor that governed the martial world.
