Wuchen (simplified: 无尘道人, traditional: 無塵道人, pinyin: Wúchén Dàorén, jyutping: mou4 can4 dou6 jan4) was the second leader of the Red Flower Society in The Book and the Sword. His nickname, “Soul-Chasing Life-Taking Sword” (追魂夺命剑), reflected his lethal swordsmanship.
Biography
Wuchen was once the incense master of a local hall before joining the Red Flower Society. His martial prowess was legendary — he once single-handedly defeated the Iron Flag Gang using only his legs, demonstrating his mastery of the Chain Illusion Legs. His swordsmanship, combined with his leg techniques, made him arguably the strongest fighter within the Red Flower Society.
His path to the jianghu was marked by personal tragedy. After being deceived by a wealthy young woman, he cut off his own arm in despair. Brothers from his incense hall rescued him, and he subsequently became a Taoist priest (hence the title “daoren”). He later joined the Red Flower Society, where his exceptional martial arts earned him the position of second leader under leader Chen Jialuo.
