Early friendship with Dongfang Bubai

Tong Baixiong and Dongfang Bubai had been sworn brothers and close friends for many years. When Dongfang Bubai was attacked by the “Seven Tigers of Ludong” (潞东七虎) on Mount Taihang, Tong Baixiong risked his life to save him. This act of loyalty cemented their friendship, and Tong Baixiong later supported Dongfang Bubai when Dongfang Bubai usurped power from Ren Woxing.

When Dongfang Bubai became leader, Tong Baixiong helped him consolidate power by killing the Vermillion Bird Hall elder Luo Changlao (罗长老), who had opposed Dongfang Bubai’s rise to power.

Dispute with Yang Lianting

However, Tong Baixiong’s relationship with Dongfang Bubai deteriorated due to conflicts with Yang Lianting, Dongfang Bubai’s lover and the order’s general manager. Tong Baixiong, as an elder who had known Dongfang Bubai for many years, felt that Yang Lianting was manipulating Dongfang Bubai and abusing his power.

When Tong Baixiong confronted Yang Lianting and criticised his actions, Dongfang Bubai, who had become completely devoted to Yang Lianting, turned against his old friend.
