Ni Kuang's novels

Ni Kuang (倪匡, 1935–2022) was a prolific Hong Kong writer who wrote over 300 works across wuxia, science fiction, and detective fiction. He is best known for the Wisely series and for ghostwriting several Jin Yong novels.

Major works

Liu Zhi Qin Mo (六指琴魔)

Ni Kuang’s most famous wuxia novel — the story of a demonic lute that drives its listeners mad.

Other wuxia works

Ni Kuang wrote numerous wuxia novels, though many were published under pseudonyms or as collaborations. His wuxia works are notable for blending supernatural elements with traditional martial arts storytelling.

Wisely series (卫斯理)

Ni Kuang’s most famous creation — a science fiction detective series featuring the adventures of Wisely (卫斯理). While not strictly wuxia, the series has influenced many wuxia authors with its blend of martial arts, mystery, and speculative fiction.

Ghostwriting

Ni Kuang is known to have ghostwritten portions of Jin Yong’s Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (天龙八部) while Jin Yong was travelling in Europe, particularly the chapters featuring the character Xuzhu (虚竹).
